Waterloo police are investigating a body found early Thursday and a shooting that injured one person late Wednesday. It wasn’t immediately clear if the incidents were related, and few details were available.

The Fort Dodge Fire Department is searching for a man who capsized in his kayak while on the water at Hydro Electric Park. The missing kayaker and his wife were on the water at 3:30 p.m. when both of their boats flipped. She made it safely to shore, but he was caught in the current.

An Ottumwa woman died and an 8-year-old child was injured Saturday morning after a single-car crash in Jefferson County. The accident happened around 8 a.m. on County Road H43 when a van, driven by 42-year-old Wendy Courtney, went off the road, into a ditch and rolled on its top, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

Authorities are investigating after a threatening message was written on a bathroom stall in a Fort Dodge high school. School resource officers and detectives responded at approximately 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to St. Edmond High School to determine the source and credibility of the message.

A head-on crash south of Madale, Iowa, killed a 74-year-old woman late Wednesday morning. The Harrison County sheriff said Marie Bryan, of Mondamin, was trying to pass two semitrailers around 11:15 a.m. when she hit an oncoming SUV.

A motorcyclist from Omaha was killed Thursday night after colliding with a livestock truck, according to Pottawattamie County officials. The crash was reported sometime before 8 p.m. near Whippoorwill Road and County Road L34. The motorcyclist is believed to be 26 years old.
